Nearly every home is equipped with smoke alarms to protect against house fires and carbon monoxide detectors to protect against carbon monoxide leaks. But do you have any way to be alerted when your basement is flooding? A basement water alarm is designed to do just that! Today we're going to talk about what a basement water alarm is and why we include them when we install new air conditioners in St. Louis area homes!
A basement water alarm is a device that monitors your basement floor for any signs of water buildup. If water is detected, the alarm is sounded in order to warn you of the beginnings of a basement leak or flood. The best thing about a basement water alarm is that it alerts you of water buildup before extensive damage is done to your home.
Jerry Kelly is a heating and cooling contractor, so why do we install basement water alarms? Part of the reason is that a water leak in your basement could be caused by your air conditioner! The most common cause of a water leak from your air conditioner is a clogged condensate drain line. When your drain line gets clogged, your drain pan fills up with water and overflows onto your system and your floor.
In addition to protecting your basement from air conditioner leaks, a water alarm will alert you of water leaks of any kind. This includes leaks from your water heater, sump pump, pipes, drain lines and any other source of water in your basement.
If you're interested in having a basement water alarm installed in your home, contact Jerry Kelly. We include water alarms with the installation of new air conditioners, and we'd be happy to install a water alarm on its own for you as well!
