When you think about all of the major problems that you can encounter in your home, there's almost nothing as bad as your furnace going out. It gets bitterly cold in the St. Louis area during winter, and your home can quickly turn into an igloo without heat. Today we're going to talk about what to do when there is no heat in your house so you can be prepared if it ever happens to you!
The first thing you'll want to do if you have no heat in your house is to check for simple problems. Your thermostat is a good place to start because it is responsible for telling your furnace when to turn on and off.
First, check to make sure that your thermostat is in the "heat" mode instead of the "cool" mode and that the temperature setting is not lower than the actual temperature of your home. Also, some thermostats will give warning signs when something is wrong with your furnace, so be on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary.
If you have an older furnace with a pilot light, make sure that the flame did not go out. If it did, relight the pilot light and see if your furnace turns back on. Also, check your circuit breaker to ensure that your furnace is receiving power.
If you check for all of the simple problems above and your furnace still won't turn on, contact Jerry Kelly right away. We offer 24/7 emergency service, so we're here for you when you need us even if your furnace goes out in the middle of the night!
