OK, so maybe a foot of snow wasn’t the way we wanted to start this season off, but according to our calendars, it’s officially spring in the St. Louis area! We here at Jerry Kelly Heating & Air Conditioning want to help take your mind off of the cold temperatures and snowstorms and think about the warmer weather ahead. Believe it or not, the cooling season will be here before we know it, and now is a great time to start thinking about getting your annual air conditioner tune-up. Whether you’re one of our maintenance club members or simply someone who wants to keep your air conditioner in the best condition possible, this post is for you!

What happens during an air conditioner tune-up?

During an air conditioner tune-up, one of our NATE certified technicians will inspect your entire cooling system and look for any problems that might affect its performance. After the tune-up, we’ll go over our findings with you and discuss any suggestions for repairs or ways you can increase the efficiency of your system.

Along with an inspection, an air conditioner tune-up also includes a full-system cleaning. A buildup of dirt anywhere on your cooling system can lead to system breakdowns and major inefficiencies. By cleaning your system, we can help keep your utility bills low and prevent problems in the future.

During your tune-up, we’ll also check your refrigerant levels, tighten electrical connections and perform all the other tasks required to keep your air conditioner in tip-top shape.

What are the major benefits of an air conditioner tune-up?

  • Avoid mid-summer breakdowns. The worst time to have your air conditioner break down is in the middle of summer during one of the hottest days of the year. Getting an air conditioner tune-up in the spring will significantly reduce the chance of breakdowns later on in the cooling season.
  • Take care of problems before they get worse. Tune-ups are often referred to as “preventative maintenance.” That’s because they prevent small problems from developing into bigger ones. If your technician finds a problem during your tune-up, you can have it taken care of before it becomes a much more expensive repair down the road.
  • Extend the life of your air conditioner. Just as regular oil changes will extend the life of your car, an annual tune-up can add years to the life of your cooling system and prevent you from having to buy a new system prematurely.
  • Keep your summer utility bills in check. You know that your utility bills are highest in the summer and winter months. That’s why you’ll want to ensure your air conditioner is running at its peak efficiency when you’re using it the most. After your tune-up, your air conditioner will be running as efficiently as possible.
